OARA advances the financial liberation, holistic development, and community-supported sustainability for local artists, prioritizing QTBIPOC creatives.

OARA delivers targeted programming that fills critical gaps in artist support—particularly for those navigating nontraditional paths outside of higher education institutions.

Our Values

  • We take into account culture and lived experiences before deciding what artists need, there is no one size fits all solution. Womyn, immigrants, queer and trans folx all have different barriers to access that need to be considered to create real support structures.

We are dedicated to living in community with each other, conflict is not the end of a relationship.

  • We prioritize relationships that are co-created by everyone, bringing their gifts, resources, and offerings to the collective’s shared table. Commit to showing up. Everyone has someone to offer, everyone has something to receive.

  • We practice transparency in all aspects of our work, and value people over profit. This applies to subjects of finances, roles & responsibilities, structures of our organization.

  • We accomplish everything to the best of our ability, and strive to create works and presentations that reflect the quality of professional artists.

  • We work in tandem and frequently collaborate with grassroot organizers and artist organizers based in the DMV. Our collective is to create liberation for marginalized artists, and liberation happens in solidarity with liberatory movements.

  • We cultivate the authentic artistic voice of our members. Our members reflect a uniqueness in their practice that is garnered through a deep understanding of self.

  • We are fierce and bold in the facing of a death-obsessed extractive culture. We demand respect and hold ourselves accordingly. Our fierceness is an expression of love for ourselves and the people we love. We are our siblings’ keepers.
